Welcome to the Verenti Tour of the Peak
![]() We wrap up the summer with the Verenti Tour of the Peak. Covering the same staggering roads as the race of the same name, this tour is set in the lovely Peak District shared by Derbyshire, Cheshire and Yorkshire. They say it's tough up north and this ride proves the point. Set mostly within the Peak District National Park, the Tour of the Peak is one of Britain's oldest bike races but now lives on as a fantastic challenge ride. We know where most of the best roads are in the Peaks. How? Because this is our local patch! Routes
As you would expect for a ride in the Peak District this challenge is hilly. We've got got a 65 miles and a 97 miles option slightly modified from the 2009 event. If you opt for the long route you will experience three of the most revered climbs in the UK. First off is the Macclesfield to Buxton road known as the Cat and Fiddle. This is not a steep climb but it is tough and long - nearly 7 miles in fact. It's on most cyclists checklist to tick-off. A bit later on the ride we have the notoriously steep Winnats Pass. Not especially long but incredibly steep. Pretty too with it's gorge like topography. If you ride this on a Sunday in high summer you'll need to keep alert for cars and tourists. Not so on a Saturday in October - just mind the odd sheep! Holme Moss has been used several times in the Tour of Britain (in it's several guises). It's another must do climb. We take you up the twisty steep side and line you up for the long straight fast descent which follows (be careful!) This ride isn't just about breathtaking climbs though. You will enjoy some of the most spectacular views and scenery. Stone villages changing colour on the route from gold, to pink, to grey and back to gold again. Whatever you cycling outlook this ride has it all. Cut-off points Depending on weather conditons we may operate 1 or 2 cut-off points on the 97 miles route at Ladybower and after Feedstation 2 at Langsett. You can see these points on the route map. If you haven't reached either cut-off points by the designated times (to be announced) we will strongly advise and encourage you to take the arrowed and supported shortened route. This reduces the likelihood of riders getting back to the HQ in the dark. We'll certainly wait up for you but if we're unlucky the weather in the Peaks can work against us all on the day.
