9th August 2009, Wild Edric

a cyclosportive event in Shropshire and the Marches

Definately a hilly challenge ride through genuinely some of the most glorious countryside. Very little traffic and lots of ‘why-dont-I-live-here?’ villages. Major climbs include Bishop’s Moat, Asterton Bank (The Long Mynd), Stretton Hills, Castle Hill, Stiperstones, Marton Hill (Long Mountain).

The long ride option is marginally under 100 miles but by the time riders have wobbled and zig-zagged up some of the hills in these parts cycle computers are likely to tip over the 100 mark. There are two feedstations at near to 33 and 66 miles into the ride and you are strongly advised to make use of them by taking on food and liquid. Believe it or not we held back on bringing in more hills to this ride when we clocked over 3,800 metres of ascending (nearly 13,000 feet) making this one of the hilliest rides in the UK. Furthermore many of the climbs (too many to list here at this time) are of the tough punchy type rather than long steady ascents found in some of the moorland areas of Britain.
